Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior representative said the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
